Making it happen
Time for action
Taking the dream and making it happen isn't easy, and it requires, for most, a good deal of thought, planning, and quite a lot of guts.
Unlike school leavers who head off on their gap years with not much to worry about than catching their flight, the career breaker has numerous hurdles to jump before the day of departure or the start of the break.
Negotiating a break from your current employer is perhaps perceived to be the toughest challenge. But what is important to remember here is that it is fast becoming accepted that structured career breaks are a necessary and positive part of a successful career path. 'Selling the idea' to the boss might be easier than you first think when you outline your reasons carefully.
Admin overload
There is a huge pile of 'stuff' to get sorted before you can actually start your career break, especially if you're planning on leaving home. Your mortgage, car, pets, tax, insurance, the list goes on.but if you plan early, use this site for advice and links to organisations that can help, and have confidence then anyone in any situation can take time-out to do what they spend their days dreaming about.
Use the 'before you go' search to find out how to deal with all those admin issues, read about how other people have done it, or email to tell us the problems you're experiencing - we maybe able to point you in the right direction.
Right, no more hanging around, its time you got on with it. now what's first? Ah yes, what do I want to do on my career break?
